The Montclair Times seeks a managing editor. A full-time position, the ME assists the editor in newsroom management, planning, assignments and editing. For each published edition, the managing editor lays out up to two dozen pages of news and special sections. The ME writes hard news journalism and collaborates with reporters in investigative, enterprise and series writing. The ME oversees The Montclair Times’ website, montclairtimes.com, and its Facebook page. This position involves managing and selecting images and overseeing freelancers.

Proven journalism experience and solid news judgement are essential for this position, along with exceptional writing and reporting skills. Are you familiar with Montclair? It’s a plus. For six of the past 13 years, the New Jersey Press Association has awarded The Montclair Times the title of New Jersey’s “newspaper of excellence,” or NJ’s best large weekly newspaper. The Times is part of North Jersey Media Group, a family-owned publishing company that includes northjersey.com, The Record daily newspaper, more than three dozen other weekly newspapers and several magazines. When not on assignment, The Times’ ME works in an actual newsroom with an array of colleagues, covering a town that teems with news.
