Free Ebook on Author Blogging

Novelist and MEWSie Lisa Dale has posted a free, 30-page e-book for novelists/authors on her Web site: www.LisaDaleBooks.com.
10 SIMPLE FACTS THAT CAN MAKE OR BREAK YOUR AUTHOR BLOG. So many of us are instructed that starting a blog is an easy way to publicize a novel. But for many writers–and most especially for creative writers–blogging can be challenging. If you’re writing a blog about “sneakers,” the way that you go about reaching your audience of sneaker-lovers is rather straightforward. But when you’re a novelist…well…the strategies for blogging aren’t so clear. This e-book offers important tips for creative writers on the best way to start and grow a blog, how to reach more readers, how to inspire readers to comment, and much more.

“Finding Josephine,” the year-old blog written by MEWSie Dionne Ford, was just nominated for Family Tree Magazine’s 40 Best Genealogy Blogs. Voting has begun and continues through December 20th at http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/ft40-2011voting. Winners will be announced in the magazine’s July 2011 issue.

Pam Satran is doing a webinar this Wednesday, July 14, from 1 to 2 pm online at shewrites.com on How To Turn Your Blog Into A Bestseller. Satran, whose blog How Not To Act Old was published as a book by Harper Collins last summer and became a New York Times bestseller, will cover everything from how to launch your blog to where to publicize to how to create your book proposal to tips for making it a bestseller.  The webinar includes a lecture, q & a, and downloadable power point.

As Managing Director of www.circlesofmontclair.com, I would like to invite Mews members to check out this new site that combines a local, social network with a virtual lifestyle guide to Montclair and the the surrounding communities. We want to bring stories of human interest to area residents, provide up-to-date event listings, and create a platform where businesses, restaurants, authors, musicians, artists and more can connect with a local audience. Take a look and feel free to create a personal page, a business page or create a group of interest to you. Hope to see you there!

MEWSie Mike Laser has just unveiled a new website: News-Basics, a source of
concise background information on major news stories. It’s aimed at young
people and adults who want to know more about how we got into Iraq and
Afghanistan, what globalization is all about, what stem cells are, etc.

Here’s the link: http://news-basics.com/

Mike is planning to publicize the site to teachers, and also hopes that
parents of adolescents will share the site with their kids. He asks that you
spread the word to anyone you think might like the site.

MEWS Blogger Wins Award

A blog by MEWSie ELLEN SEIDMAN, To The Max, won Best Special Needs Blog in thebump.com’s Mommy Blogger Awards. Writes Ellen: “I’ve been doing my blog, To The Max, for just over a year now. It’s a blog about life with my little boy, Max, who had a stroke at birth that resulted in cerebral palsy. I started the blog because I thought it would be cathartic. I also wanted to inspire parents of babies with delays and special needs because those can be the hardest years. Since starting the blog, I’ve met hundreds of moms with kids who have special needs. I’ve gotten amazing support, laughed a lot and learned a lot, too; one of my blog readers told me that Duke University was doing stem cell infusions for kids with cerebral palsy. We did that for Max this summer.
