Parents.com, the website for Parents magazine, is looking for an editorial intern to work in our midtown New York office. This is a paid position, and we consider our intern a full-member of our small editorial team. The intern will learn about and participate in all aspects of creating, producing, and promoting content for a high-traffic, growing website. This includes editing content for the web, participating in the Parents.com online community, optimizing content for search, developing tools and apps, and being part of our social media efforts. The ideal candidate is creative, hard-working, eager to learn, and able to juggle multiple projects at once.

Montclair Magazine and Millburn-Short Hills Magazine, two direct-mailed publications distributed to affluent homeowners and local businesses in those and surrounding communities, are in need of a Part-time (approx. 15-20 hours a week) Editor.

We seek an editor who operates on the principle that it is his or her job to make the magazine a piece of inspired, educational and entertaining work. He or she must have the ability to present a magazine that meets the needs of its targeted audience. The Editor will be involved in developing and assigning stories, writing articles, editing and working with the art and production team.

In addition to passion and vision, the successful candidate will have at least three years of comparable experience and excellent communication skills.

BaristaKids Seeks Sportswriting Intern

Barista Kids, a local parenting website with close to 2,000 hits a day, needs an outgoing intern to cover local kids’ sports. Ideally, intern would be a teenager or college student who’s already active in sports activities and aspires to be a sports writer one day. Intern will be responsible for reporting on public school (not college) sporting events and club sports and also gathering scores in Essex county, specifically: Montclair, Glen Ridge, Bloomfield, West Orange, Maplewood, South Orange and Millburn. This is a great opportunity to learn how to report on deadline and hone writing skills. Candidates must be proficient on a computer, know a little bit about CMS and be organized and detail-oriented. Must be able to commit to at least 6 months of work. Required work will take 2 to 3 hours–intern makes own hours. Job Description:
Some of the best environmental journalists on the planet write for NRDC’s OnEarth magazine. Over the past year, our website at www.onearth.org has grown tremendously, as well. We plan to keep expanding our online offerings and are set to unveil an extensive redesign later this summer. We’re looking for a consultant to serve as production editor. Responsibilities may include:

• Posting stories to the website through our Drupal-based content management system.
• Copy editing and fact checking online stories before publication.
• Writing headlines and display type, selecting and cropping photos, deciding story placement, and otherwise ensuring the quality and timeliness of our homepage and other key aspects of onearth.org.
• Editing and production of audio slideshows, videos, photo galleries, and other multimedia features, and promoting onearth.org content through social media.
• Other responsibilities as appropriate.

Requirements:
• Knowledge of web standards and tools including HTML/CSS, Photoshop, and Final Cut Pro or other video editing software. Familiarity with both Mac and PC preferred.
• Experience using a content management system for production of a news website or blog.
• Excellent news judgment, editing skills, attention to detail, knowledge of AP style, and demonstrated interest in science and environmental reporting.
• Flexible hours and ability to work remotely while also being able to visit our midtown Manhattan offices occasionally for meetings with editors.

Compensation:
This consultancy will be based on an hourly wage. Hours may vary between approximately 50 and 100 hours a month based on a quarterly production schedule. As a consultant, you will not receive NRDC employee benefits, and you will be responsible for your own tax withholdings. NRDC will not supply you with any equipment.
